Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
At William Stimson Public School, we aim to provide a caring, well managed, safe environment for all students, staff and parents. In the playground and classroom, students are expected to comply with our school Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) values.
What is PBL?
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is an evidence-based framework that brings together the whole -school community to contribute to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. The framework assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.
Our Aim
Our goal is to implement teaching and learning approaches that support the development of skills needed by students to meet our high standards for respectful, safe and engaged behaviour. With positive and respectful relationships across the school community, we maintain a productive learning environment, and support students’ development of strong identities as learners.
PBL at WSPS
Every fortnight a new PBL focus is introduced to students and explicit lessons are taught accordingly. During lessons students have the opportunity to explore how to make positive choices, develop problem solving skills and reflect on their learning.
Our Aim
We acknowledge students who have demonstrated a particular PBL value throughout the week. Teachers hand out their PBL awards every Friday.
Please keep your child’s class awards in a safe place to be able to collect Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal and Principal Awards. 3 of each award will lead to the next tier.
Our Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL) Awards celebrate students who consistently demonstrate respect, resilience and responsibility, helping to create a positive and supportive school environment.
Positive Behaviour for Learning is an evidence-based whole school framework that actively promotes positive behaviour. It enables students to develop a clear understanding of required expectations, become responsible for their own behaviour and work together to create a positive, productive and harmonious learning community.
We provide this by:
•Ensuring that principles of equity and fairness are reflected in school practice.
•Developing and implementing policies and procedures to protect the rights, safety and health of all community members.
•Valuing and providing opportunities for all students to develop the skills involved in positive relationships, social responsibility, problem solving and dispute resolution.
•Establishing networks to support students and making sure that students and parents
•know about and have ready access to this support.
It is expected that positive and respectful relationships will exist at all times between all members of the school community - students, staff, parents and community members.
